It's official: An Engagement between Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist

Today, on 27th June 2014, it was announced via an unexpected and quite spontaneous press conference at the Royal Palace in Stockholm that Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and his girlfriend Sofia Hellqvist are engaged. The press conference was originally to take place at 4.30 local time but was delayed one hour.

Before the actual press conference took place an announcement from the Marshal of the Realm was posted on the Royal Courts' webpage and their Facebook page.

The date has not been decided yet but we know that the wedding will take place sometime next summer, 2015.

Before the press conference, Aftonbladet's reporter read an announcement: Prince Carl Philip said: "Today Sofia has said "yes" to spend the rest of her life with me by marrying me. Today is a joyous day for both me and Sofia."

Sofia looked stunning wearing a red dress when she walked hand in hand with her Prince. Carl Philip wore a navy blue suit, white shirt and a blue tie.

The press conference started with a photograph session and then Prince Carl Philip made the announcement. He said, "We are happy today, a little nervous, but happy."

Sofia said she was surprised by the proposal, which happened this morning at a private place the couple loves and want to keep private. The prince chose and bought the ring himself. Sofia said that this morning when she woke up she did not expect a thing. Then when the prince went down on one knee and presented Sofia with a ring she knew what was going on. The prince admitted being really nervous when he popped the question.

After answering the press' questions the couple was photographed with the King and Queen.
